We are a small and growing enthusiastic group. We have two activities within the overall society:
- The Local History group holds meetings every other month when a guest speaker will entertain and enlighten us with a short talk on one of his or her specialist subjects.
- The second activity is a self-help Family Research group that meets every month.
In addition, we try to organise at least one visit to a place of interest during the better weather. Every year we find somewhere different to enjoy the surroundings and a social day out.
Our members come mainly from the Wheatleys and from the neighbouring towns and villages of North Nottinghamshire.
Details of our meetings are shown on the Future Events page,
We have also published 2 books about the joint villages of North & South Wheatley – Photographic Memories and The History and Stories of North and South Wheatley. Please see the Book Sales page for more details.
Update - 19th April 2022
Following good attendances at the recent meetings of the Family Research group, the meetings planned for 11th May, 8th June and 13th July will definitely go ahead. Meetings start at 2pm at the Village Hall, South Wheatley
The next meeting of the Local History group will take place on 16th May starting at 10 am, again at the Village Hall, South Wheatley. The talk this time will be given by Jean Townsend and is titled "The Last Laugh". It is a talk about amusing graveyard epitaphs.
In September we will be having an evening with Caroline Hawley, with well known auctioneer and TV personality.
